DAN JENKINS PHS ‘48: Dan, age 82, was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Monday, May 7, 2012, in St. Augustine, Florida, in the Lifetime Achievement category. The Class of 2012 includes Dan Jenkins, Phil Michelson, Sandy Lyle, Peter Alliss and Hollis Stacy. An article written by Jimmy Burch, in the Star Telegram on Sunday, May 6, 2012, (sports page 11C) was very interesting and told about Dan’s life. Dan Jenkins loves Paschal HS, Fort Worth and golf.

CLASS NEWS:

SUE FITTS: Sue has been moved again to the Methodist Hospital she was in earlier. On May 11 she was strong enough to have the gallbladder removed and a drain put in a cyst that the doctors have been watching. Her sister reports she is doing well.

JERRY PRATER: May 11, 2012 email….”Thank you for posting my brother’s obituary on the class website. My sister-in-law, Marilyn, AHHS 1966, was also touched by it. FYI, Roy never graduated from Paschal, but he was a Paschalite. He joined the Marines, got his GED, and subsequently received undergraduate and graduate degrees from UT. Life takes us down many paths. Warm regards, Jerry.”

CAROL REID PERMANN: Carol is back in Medical Plaza for further testing and a decision about how to handle the hip issues.

Thanks for continuing to visit the class website. There is a lot of time and expense put in on the site. The whole idea of the site is to keep our classmates connected. Thanks for the positive remarks Sharon and I receive from you. “Signing in” just helps us know the interest and support is there.

FYI: May 15, 2012, email from Gayle Caldwell York gcyork1020@sbcglobal.net :
“ Hey – great website for your class! We’re the class of ‘59 – we have a girls’ lunch the 1st Tuesday of each month – would love for you all to join us one of these months!!!”

PHS Newsletter April 14, 2012
Dear Classmates,

Corrections from April 6, 2012, newsletter are:

Cathy Donovan Guynes lives in Northern NEW MEXICO not Northern Mexico!

Our class website is http://www.paschal1960.com

Sorry about the mistakes. I try hard to report correct information but senior moments keep getting in the way!!!

The News:

LINDA CONIGLIO VAUTRAIN:

April 11, 2012 email: “I am still in Arkansas and doing much better. I went to the doctor Friday April 6, and I can take the boot off to sleep now, but have to wear it during the day except while I am doing my exercises. I am unable to drive while having to wear the boot, but will be home when I can drive, hopefully soon. There is no place like home”.

SHARON FRANKLIN HUTCHISON:

Our webmaster Sharon Franklin Hutchison is experiencing back pain which returns periodically as a result of degenerative disc disease. She had a spinal fusion in 2003 and usually does pretty well with her back, but when the episodes occur, it is quite painful and debilitating. She continues to update the website as she is able. Thank you Sharon, for all your hard work on the class website. Your classmates really appreciate what you do to help us stay connected.

ROBERT MC MULLIN:

April 7, 2012, email: “Let’s all pray for Paul Woods to beat this and be healed. He is still the winner we have all known. Hang tough my dear friend.”

ZOE MORRIS TYREE:

April 7, 2012, email: “I came through the tornadoes unscathed too…but whew, they were close! I work in North Arlington near the Ballpark and the Cowboy Stadium and the twisters were “dancing” all around us there. We closed the office doors and went down to the lowest floor for to be safe, then the wind came through, blew the huge glass doors open, but they held and didn’t break. The wind bent a stop sign completely over to the ground, so we all went back upstairs and the alert came again, so back downstairs. At my home in south Fort Worth, I had only rain and no hail nor terrible winds. Next day, found sections of Arlington were declared a disaster area. So praise God, though it caused much damage elsewhere and scared everyone to pieces, His angels once again brought us through the dangers.”

RONNIE MURRAY:

April 7, 2012 email: “Yes, we were also very fortunate to be spared from the damage caused by the tornadoes. Although we live just a few blocks north of the Green Oaks Nursing Home that was in the news and the neighborhood east of it that was so hard hit, God was gracious to spare us.”

JANIS PARSON GALLAGHER moved from San Mateo, California to Green Valley, Arizona.

CAROL REID PERMANN:

Carol had hip replacement surgery March 21, completed rehab and was back home rehabbing. On April 12, she had to return to the hospital and have another procedure on her hip. She will be in the hospital until at least Tuesday, April 17.

ALICE UTTERBACK DEMENT:

April 7, 2012 email: “This last year of teaching has gone by really fast and now graduation day is just two weeks away on April 21st. The last official duty I have at Flagler College will be to give the invocation and benediction at those graduation ceremonies. Then my two min-pins and I are leaving Florida and heading toward our new home in Fort Worth (with a few sightseeing stops along the way). See you at FIRST MONDAY on MAY 7TH!” Make sure and put May 7 on your calendar so you can come and welcome Alice back to Fort Worth.

MARK WASSENICH:

Mark is volunteering at TCU to organize a Board of Visitors and support group for the new John V. Roach Honors College. He continues his investing business and recently attended a “staff meeting” with all the 1970s and 80’s staff of the Dallas City Manager’s Office. Last year he fought prostate cancer and is now back to the “new normal”. Watch out on the road as he just bought a used red Corvette to celebrate recovery from the cancer.

JANET FOWLER, PHS ’58 died April 5, 2012.

Thank you for the news and visiting the class website. Please send more news.

The middle of the US has been in a severe weather forecast all weekend. Be safe and aware during this unpredictable spring weather where ever you are.

PHS Newsletter, April 6, 2012

Dear Classmates,

This is the Easter and Passover time of the year. I hope you have a nice weekend.

The News:
MARY BELT BARTLEY: March 27 email: “Tyler just had our quilt show; the guild is the Quilters Guild of East Texas. We have over 200 members and I had 4 quilts in the show. I won 1st place and 3 honorable mentions. Next year March 22/23, 2013, we will be having a special Red and White Renaissance, show casing 21st Century Red and White Quilts with a full spectrum of other quilts. It is a great time to visit Tyler to see all the beautiful azaleas and take in the quilt show.”

CATHY DONOVAN GUYNES: Cathy is sending a photo instead of news to say “my main news is simply living in Northern Mexico…and LOVING it! “ Look for the photo on our class website soon.

SUE FITTS: the most recent news came in today: Sue is in Kindred Clear Lake in Webster, TX, to get some much needed therapy. She needs to get her nutrition to a better level so she will be stronger for the gall bladder surgery she needs. She has a long haul ahead of her so keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

ARNIE GACHMAN: I forgot to mention in the last newsletter the article on the class website about his family history. I hope you will visit the site and read the article.

LUCILLE MC CRACKEN KEITH AND MARVIN KEITH: Marvin retired from Kaiser Permanente as systems administrator. Lucille retired from the TCU library after twenty years. They are taking some trips and fixing up the old homestead. Also, they enjoy the class newsletter and seeing what is going on with classmates. Now we just need to get them to First Monday and the next reunion.

BOBBY RAYEL: I emailed him after the earthquake and this is his response: “March 27, 2012, our hanging light fixtures really swayed and it was a little scary but we are ok and the house is ok. We are 120 miles north of Mexico City, so we don’t feel the quakes a lot but this one had a little bang to it.”

CAROL REID PERMANN: Carol is home and getting home therapy after her hip surgery. She is getting stronger each day. Keep up the good work Carol.

BEVERLY SCARICH SINGER: Beverly’s husband, Paul, has Parkinson’s disease and other health issues and is in the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawraenceburg, IN. Beverly has permanent Bell’s Palsy which has caused hearing loss, poor balance and facial nerve problems. She has had 2 back surgeries, but it doesn’t give her pain anymore. Both Beverly and Paul have many health issues and thoughts and prayers go out to them.

BUBBA WOODS: March 28 email: “Thought I’d put out an update on some health issues. I was in the hospital December 28-January 5, 2012, because of multiple blood clots in both lungs. While there discovered some kidney blockage. I returned to the hospital Sunday March 25, with kidney failure and diverticulitis. Stints and antibiotics seem to be working. Kidney stones slowing recovery. God is good. Peace be with you. Thanks for putting out the word. Bubba”

The tornadoes in Arlington were very bad and too close for comfort but the three of us in my neighborhood made it through okay. There are several classmates in Arlington and I would love to hear from you so we would know you are okay also.

FIRST MONDAY April 2 pictures are on the website. The next FIRST MONDAY will be May 7. Visit the website for the location and I will try to get out a newsletter with the information also.

Keep sending the news. Visit the website http://paschal1960.com often. We have lots of interesting things included on the site. Click on the right and left sides and read that information. Remember to join the PHS Alumni Association. To print the PHS Alumni Association form to join, click on Alumni Association in the left column.

Keep our classmates in your thoughts and prayers. I have shared the ones that I know about and you can just think of the others we do not know about yet but that need our support.

PHS Newsletter March 27, 2012

Dear Classmates,

Lots of news so will get right to it. It was nice to hear back from so many classmates in response to my request for their birth dates.  They sent the dates plus news and thoughts.   Our 70th year is really a milestone for many of us.

FIRST MONDAY March 2, 2012, was a great night.   Go to the class website http://www.paschal1960.com to see pictures of some of the 35 people that were there.

Next FIRST MONDAY is April 2, 2012, so while at the website read about where, time and how to send in your reservation.

KAREN ANDERSON HODGES:  Karen sends word her husband, Gerald, is battling cancer and appreciates your prayers.  It has been suggested that Gerald needs a partial hip replacement, but that might be put aside for now.

JOHN MIKE BROOKS:  Mike’s birthday is April 21, so he always celebrates San Jacinto Day each year.  All is well on Tybee Island for Mike and his wife Deborah.  They continue to work as a university dean and a college professor respectively.  They headed to Florida for some work, a break and hopefully for some spring baseball.

“ROBIN” ALICE COMBEST CRIDLAND:  “As we look forward to our # 70 birthday it is mind blowing.  Now we understand what our parents meant when they talked about how it ‘seemed like only yesterday we were young’…and how fast life had gone by.  Someone else said, “Youth is wasted on the young”.  Youth is in such a hurry to be old!!!”

SUE FITTS:  March 15, 2012, the latest news I received:  Sue has been moved to a hospital in Houston.  The doctors found a cyst on her pancreas.  Please keep her in your prayers.  I sent a card earlier from the class to her home and will wait until I learn more to send another card.  Sue has a brother, Herb Fitts, PHS ’58 and a sister Jill Fitts Mraz, PHS ‘62.

KENNETH GODFREY:   After four months, his broken wrist has not joined and still is at risk for breakage again, though it is held together with a metal plate and screws.  He has been given CMF OLF1000 to rub each day on his wrist.  If it does not succeed by six months, it will be necessary to operate again.  He has no pain and pretty good movement and flexibility.  We pray you will get a good report at your next doctor visit.

BILL HARGRAVE:  Bill and his wife, Marilyn, are coming to Fort Worth for a visit April 18-21 or so.  He would like to see and visit with classmates if possible.  Jim and I are meeting Bill and Marilyn on Thursday (19th) for lunch.  If you would like to contact Bill, let me know and I will tell you how to reach him.  Bill really enjoyed seeing everyone at the 50th reunion.

HOLLIS NASH:  “My wife, Linda Kay Webb Nash (Arlington HS/TCU) and I are both retired and enjoying Southwest Florida here in Cape Coral.  We have one granddaughter, two grandsons and another grandson due in August.  I spend most of my time just taking care of a new home, boat, pool and playing with the grandkids.  This is a great place to live but we do miss our Fort Worth friends and family.

After reading all of your newsletters with all of the health issues of all of those old people I am happy to report that we are still young and doing great!!!          (If you are under 90 here then you are young!)

I have been watching films that my family took of FTW and TCU from 1927-1965.  They are amazing!  The twin T&P Railway Towers under construction (1928) and the Will Rogers Center with the Largest dome building in the world at that time.  And a much smaller TCU football stadium!  And my parent’s Central High School with its principal Mr. R. L. Paschal.  Fort Worth has an amazing history!”  Thank you for a trip back down memory lane.  When y’all return to Fort Worth, you will really be surprised with all the changes.

CAROL REID PERMANN:  Carol had her hip replacement surgery March 21.  She did well and now is in Texas Rehab down by Harris downtown.  I will send a card from the class.

JANET TICKNOR LOYA:      Janet has moved into Broadway Plaza, suite 127, on Bryant Irvin Rd.  Her cell number is 817-217-5067 and would love to hear from you.  Duration of her stay is indefinite (or unknown) because she has vision problems and is unable to drive.  Her speech is good, even though there are pauses (mainly caused by the stroke).  Sounds strong.  Her mobility is good, also.  I will send a card from the class.

Other class PHS graduates:

Jimmy Holt, PHS ’61, passed away February 19, 2012.

Mike Cason, PHS ’58, passed away March 14, 2012.

Hopefully you have gone to the class website and clicked on Alumni Association in the left column, filled out the form and sent in your $10.00 dues for the year.  You help Paschal and you will receive your Pantherette.  I look every time it comes out and our class remains one of the big donors to help the Alumni Association function.  The Alumni Association is entirely run by volunteers and supports Paschal 100%.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE FOLLOWING:

January:  Martin Frost, Barbara Lind, Gary Giles, Gayle, McLeod, Judy Stevens, Glynnine LePhiew, Gary Wells, Erik Stocker, Jim Branch, Dan Duncan, John Sears, Jerry McPhail, Mary Dee Harris, Benny Loya, Jane Wiggin, Jean Wiggin, Judy Taylor, Ron Martin, Patrick George, Nancy Rutledge, Jack Marks, Mike Scott, Marvin Keith.

Loyally,

FIRST MONDAY, MARCH 5, was held at Pulido’s and the attendance was great.  I was told about 35 people attended, including some first timers.  That is great to hear and we look forward to seeing more at next month’s FIRST MONDAY.  Visit the website to see pictures.  A BIG THANK YOU to Billie Roberts Dorris and Judy Kay Lamberson Neely for organizing this every month.

FIRST MONDAY’S ARE ALWAYS LISTED ON THE WEBSITE WITH THE DATE AND LOCATION and in a newsletter if I am able to send one out in time.

It warms my heart to see classmates go to the website and obituary guest book to leave a message when a loved one has passed.  I send cards from all of us, but that personal message one on one means so much.  Thank you for taking the time to share in their loss.  We have several classmates needing our thought s and prayers, even though they want their privacy.  Please include all of us in your prayers.  Any time you need an address, just let me know.

I had several send their birth dates including the year, as I requested, but I need everyone’s.  Send your birthday date if you have not done so, please.

Did you get your Pantherette?  I have been asked how do you know if your dues are current.  There is a date on the Pantherette mailing label that tells you renewal time of dues.  Don’t forget to go to www.paschalalumni.com to update your information and join the association.
